Each year, AKRWA (the Alaska chapter of Romance Writers of America) partners with the Alaska Writers Guild and SCBWI-AK (the Alaska chapter of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) to co-host a conference. This year, the 2024 Conference for Writers and Illustrators will be held in Anchorage on October 4-5.
Every fall, we bring in Alaskan speakers and experts from all over the country to give presentations. Agents, editors, book coaches, and published writers share information about the craft of writing and the publishing industry. And the manuscript critiques are really helpful--last year, I got great feedback on the beginning of my YA time travel novel, and it won a "Most Promising Manuscript" award, giving me a huge morale boost as I completed my work in progress! :-) But for many, the best part is hanging out with fellow creatives.
AKRWA always sponsors a speaker; this fall, we're proud to bring Kaitlyn Katsoupis, freelance editor and literary agent, to Alaska. We also hold a panel discussion session each year, this time with our moderator Sherri Trask and panelists Elizabeth Allyn-Dean, Neva Post, and C. G. Williams. Our AKRWA members will talk about tropes and how writers can use them to engage readers of all genres. Please attend Kaitlyn's workshops, come to our session, and stop by our AKRWA display table. You'll be glad you did!
Early bird registration ends on Saturday, August 24! Learn more about the conference and register here:
