Two things most Alaskans keep secret: the best fishing hole and the best berry picking spot. Okay, actually I know lots of generous people that share their spots with others. And this is the time of year to ask your friends and neighbors where they are picking berries.
I haven’t picked outside of my yard this year, due to other things taking up my time. But I am lucky to have a good raspberry patch. I’ve made raspberry crisp a few times, and have stashed jars of jam and sauce in the freezer for later. And we’ve enjoyed some directly off the bush, too. Not bad for a few hours of work.
