May is Asian & Pacific American or Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (also known as AAPI or AANHPI) Heritage Month! I’ve talked about this before, but it’s always a good time to point out some of my favorite authors.

In last year’s post, I recommended Sayantani DasGupta, June Hur, Sarah Kuhn, Lyla Lee, Stacey Lee, Randy Ribay, and Sherry Thomas. (See https://www.lynnlovegreen.com/post/authors-for-aapi-aanhpi-heritage-month.) That post is still worth reading if you haven’t or it’s been too long and you want a refresher.

I still love those authors, but I have a little more to share based on what I’ve been reading in the past year.

Illustration of long-haired girl silhouetted on craggy rock above the sea, leaves along the sides. New York Times Bestselling Author of The Downstairs Girl, Stacey Lee, Heiress of Nowhere

Stacey Lee is still one of my go-to reads. Check out her new YA mystery Heiress of Nowhere at her website:

Illustration of five diverse kids in various outfits and one ginger cat in front of a line-up chart, "For any kid who's felt like a misfit, this crackling adventure packs a wallop."-Lincoln Pierce, creator of BIG NATE and NAX & THE MIDKNIGHTS. Newbery Honor Winner and National Book award Finalist Lisa Yee, Art by Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat.

I also discovered two middle grade authors, Lisa Yee and Dan Santat. They create the goofy illustrated Misfits mystery series together. You can check them out at

and

Enjoy these authors and explore something different for you this month—that’s part of what makes summer reading fun!
