This is a great time to catch up on books with authors and main characters with disabilities. I’ve written about book recs for Disability Pride Month before (https://www.lynnlovegreen.com/post/disability-pride-month-book-recs) so I will make a list of the older ones, then jump in with two other titles you may enjoy.

Butterflies & Characters by Liz Hsu
Ray learns she has lupus as she deals with a new school, living with her dad full time, and her first love. Charles juggles his classes, extracurriculars, and a longtime crush while he applies for his dream college. Will they help each other through this, or complicate things even more? Liz Hsu’s young adult novel is a heartwarming look at a teen’s experience with lupus. The writing could use more editing in a few spots, but the humor and romance show through like Ray’s beloved sunshine. This is a novel that many teens will see themselves in.
Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett
Want romance, mystery, and coming of age rolled into one? This is your book! Birdie's overactive imagination leads her to see everything as a detective would. That comes in handy when her new hotel job leads her to a handsome young man with a mystery to solve. Is a reclusive author meeting someone behind that door? And why would Daniel be interested in her? Is this real love, or just smoke and mirrors? This is a great YA story that touches on disability (narcolepsy and hearing impairment), grief, and other serious topics in a relatable way.
