It's Library Card Sign-up Month!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. It’s the perfect time to celebrate our public libraries and all the services they provide.
I love my library for several reasons. Of course, I enjoy the books, videos, and other materials to check out. But I also appreciate having expert researchers available anytime I need specific historical material or information that I don’t know how to find. It’s also great to go to the library for programs. Whether it’s a special movie, a fun craft project, or a book club, there’s always something going on.
Libraries are vital places for kids, too. Their book collections are super, but they have programs, too. If you have a little one who loves storytime, a tween that enjoys craft activities, or a teen that wants to be published in a zine, the library has you covered! (BTW, the Anchorage Public Library is taking Teen Zine submissions right now! https://www.anchoragelibrary.org/services/services-for/teens/teen-zine/)
Nowadays, libraries are under attack. It’s vitally important for us to show our library love. If you don’t have a library card, apply for one. High library card numbers prove that people in your community value the library. If you already have a card, show your support in other ways like writing letters to your city council or state legislature, or tell your neighbors how much libraries mean to you. See more ideas at ALA’s Show Up for Libraries Site, https://www.ala.org/advocacy/show-up-for-our-libraries. It’s up to us to keep our libraries going. They can’t exist without our help.
